I am working on a chip/electronic component detection app to detect the offset and rotation of an electronic component which is suspended above the camera and light source on a vacuum needle. The offset and rotation values will then be used to correct the placement of the part.

The needle head and drives can be seen on a video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qAm5OSbMLs (needles will be on the left gantry system.)

I am using blob detection to mark the outline of detected components with the code from http://leakingmemory.wordpress.com/2012/03/17/shape-recognition-using-c-and-aforge/ and I now need to be able to find the centre offset and rotation of the part. I tried the document skew checker but this didn’t seem to return the correct rotation for the blob.

The screen shot below shows the work so far on the app with the chip on the left video feed from the camera and the right side is the processed image

Any recommendations for ways to resolve this or alternative methods are greatly appreciated.
